1. Confirm identity and batch information

Check the exact product name, botanical name where applicable, plant part, extract ratio or marker compound, batch number, manufacture date, and retest or expiry date. These fields should match labels and commercial documents.

2. Review assay and test method together

An assay value only becomes meaningful when the method is stated. HPLC, UV, GC, and other methods can measure different analytes or groups of compounds. Compare the result with the agreed specification and method.

3. Check contaminants against the target market

Relevant controls may include heavy metals, pesticide residues, residual solvents, microbiology, aflatoxins, ETO, or other risks. The required panel depends on ingredient, application, and destination market.

4. Look for traceability and authorization

The COA should identify the tested batch and be issued or approved by an authorized quality function. Where external testing is required, confirm that the laboratory and report are linked to the same batch.

5. Resolve unclear items before release

Ask for clarification when units, methods, limits, or sample identity are missing. A short technical review before purchase can prevent larger delays during incoming inspection.
